It was only a matter of time before Chanel's price increase on classic bags. As of November 2017, most classic flaps and reissue bags are $400 more when purchased at US retail stores. In case you missed the new prices...
Chanel mini classic flap - went from $3,100 to $3,300
Chanel medium/large classic flap - went from $4,900 to $5,300
Chanel jumbo classic flap - went from $5,500 to $5,900
Chanel maxi classic flap - went from $6,000 to $6,400
Chanel Reissue 225 flap - went from $4,900 to $5,300
Chanel Reissue 226 flap - went from $5,500 to $5,900
Chanel Reissue 227 flap - went from $6,000 to $6,400
Other classics, such as the Boy, wallet on chain, and classic wallets did not increase in price... as of now.
Chanel's last price increase on these bags in the US was back in 2014, so the price hike is not surprising.
What do the retail price increases mean for resale? Based on past patterns, the value of pre-owned and vintage reissues and classic flaps will likely increase in value as well.
For instance, I purchased a nice vintage Chanel double flap for about $900 several years ago. The same bag would probably sell for around $1,500 now. Classic Chanel bags usually become more expensive over time, assuming that they were purchased in the resale market and not at full retail prices. :/
