We all have at least one pair of jeans that we haven't worn in a while and probably won't for even longer. I decided to make a pair of cut-off shorts out of some old bootcut jeans.
This fun and easy DIY results in a pair of shorts! All you need is:
1. A pair of jeans that you no longer care for or wear
2. Sharp scissors that can cut denim easily
3. Seam ripper
4. A pair of shorts that you love and will use as a reference
Step 1: Take a pair of shorts that you like (I used my beloved True Religion joey) and put them on top of the jeans that you want to change into shorts. Line them up from the inseam.
Step 2: Cut the jeans along the outline of the shorts, adding about an extra inch in length. It's always easier to cut more, but impossible to cut less. Also, some of the bottom denim material will be frayed.
Step 3: Cut a little extra from just the front of the newly-cut shorts. As you can see from my TR joey shorts, many trendy shorts are slightly shorter in the front than on the back.
Step 4: Fray the newly cut hem by using a seam ripper along the hem. Stick the seam ripper near the hem and push towards the hem. Repeatedly do this along the hemline until the entire hem is frayed.
And, voila! There you have it! A new-to-you pair of cutoff shorts to enjoy. :) Hope that this easy little tutorial results in many pairs of loved cut-off shorts. Happy summer everyone!
Stay tuned. We're going to add some edge to these shorts later.
