Many people do not realize that it is very easy to wear a bra with Herve Leger. In fact, most people wear a bra with their dresses; it's more flattering, and HL is far too revealing when it gets cold. Here's a guide to what bra to wear for different Herve Leger dresses.
Most Herve Leger dresses fall into this category. These dresses don't require any special bras. Most Herve Leger will also offer additional support; they have a tendency to push the bust together, up and slightly flatten. If you mind the flattening, opt for a hard shell or padded bra. For most HL dresses, just about any normal bra can be worn.
For most spaghetti straps, one shoulders, halter neck and strapless Herve Leger, a simple strapless bra will do. Again, if you don't want the slight flattening effect of bandage material, opt for a hard shell or padded bra. Many strapless Herve Leger will be especially tight around the bust.
When you need the back strap of a bra to be just a little lower, reach for a low back bra converter! This wardrobe accessory is a simple extension band that wraps around your torso and pulls the back strap lower. Make sure that this converter is simple in design without large hook closures in the front; these over-complicated converters are unsightly and will likely show through on many Herve Leger dresses. A good example of one that would work is here.
Herve Leger with plunging backs generally do not flatten the bust area like more traditional Herve Leger dresses.
For plunging backs, the low back bra converter will not work. For these dresses, non-traditional bras will be needed. There are three options: a bra with adhesive sides, adhesive cups, or nipple petals. Nubras/adhesive cup bras and bras with adhesive sides should not be worn for longer than 4 hours. For those with sensitive skin like myself, you should not wear them at all. The adhesive on these items is not breathable at all and can cause skin reactions. Most people can tolerate them for 4 hours without adverse skin reactions.
If you don't require support, padding or shaping, petals are fantastic at avoiding pointy situations. These are also perfect with loose flowing silk blouses and drape dresses.
Herve Leger with plunging necklines will not be as flattening as more traditional Herve Leger.
To avoid showing too much, petals can be used. If shaping, or padding is required, opt for adhesive bra cups worn un-clipped. There are many types of adhesive cups out there for all our womanly wishes: a little shaping, a little push up, and add a cup size.
