Herve Leger in the Washing Machine?

A while back, we purchased a damaged Herve Leger dress with permanent stains to do a number of experiments on. These experiments are just for fun, and we hope that you find them interesting. For our first experiment, we're going to run a Herve Leger dress through the washing machine and dryer! Curious to find out what happens? So were we!

This is what the stained Herve Leger dress looked like before the wash. It was quite wrinkled. We made measurements of the dress to check if the washing and drying would stretch or shrink the garment.

The washing machine was set on a short delicate cycle with cold water. Regular Tide detergent was used. Afterwards, it was dried on a gentle cool cycle until it was mostly dry. The garment was then laid flat for two days to completely dry.

So... what happened? Here's the result:

Surprisingly, the dress seemed to withstand the wash and dryer pretty well. No stretching or shrinking, and the garment came out fresh smelling, clean and smooth.

However, because Herve Leger is such a high-end luxury brand, I still wouldn't recommend this process for cleaning. It just seems too aggressive to me. My favorite way to wash Herve Leger are the dry-clean cloths.

Did you find this experiment interesting? If you want to see this dress withstand something in particular, let us know in the comment section. For our next experiment, we're going to dye it a different color!!
